Last Updated: April 27th, 2008 ~ I am sad to say that I am NOT currently breeding. I am just too busy between working full time and raising my baby boy. I do not believe in doing something unless you're going to do it well, and right now I am stretched too thin for that. I hope everyone understands and I'm sorry for any inconvenience. I may resume breeding at some time, right now I just don't know when.

Welcome to the Silver Fuzz Rattery. I am located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Silver Fuzz Rattery is currently one of the longest standing ratteries in Michigan. I've been breeding rats since 1997 and concentrate on breeding happy, healthy rats as pets for people and for other breeders. I've owned rats as pets for approximately 15 years. My rats have come from all over the country, as far south as Florida and as far west as Washington. I breed towards marked rats in a variety of colors, including Russian Blue, American Blue, Midnight Blue, Mink, RED, and Burmese. Other colors will pop up, and not all litters will be marked, as health and temperament must take precedence over my favorite colors and markings.

I do not believe in culling healthy babies, or otherwise "getting rid of them." I do not make money at all breeding my rats. Money recieved by placing them into pet homes goes right back into the rats - for food, bedding, new toys, cages, health costs, etc. I also do not believe in simply throwing cute rats together to make babies. All pairs are carefully considered based on a variety of things before being placed together. I breed for the love of rats, and as a hobby, not to make money or as a status symbol. Along the way I have learned a lot, and made some wonderful friends.

If you're interested in adopting, please read through the information on my site and fill out an adoption application to email to me. Babies and occasionally older rats are available throughout the year unless I am in quarantine or taking a break from breeding. You may ask to be placed on a waiting list for a specific type, if you'd like. Planned breedings are posted to the left sometimes.

I'm also the Vice President of the Great Lakes Fancy Rat Association. The GLFRA is a social club that's basically here to promote rats as pets, teach people about them, etc. In November of 2004, 2005, and 2006 we held a booth at America's Family Pet Expo. We got to meet tons of people and hopefully we turned some people's views on rats into a more positive light. We've also had booths at other expos and attended other public awareness events. The club also has meetings, especially throughout the warmer months, and anyone is invited. No rats are brought to prevent the spread of disease, but we talk about rats and have a good time meeting other rat fanciers. Meetings are usually held in a public park or similar area. More info can be found on the GLFRA website, linked to the left.
