Pick Up Policies and Directions
I know it's a lot of information, but please read this page in full!
My address is:
314 Maplelawn St SW
Wyoming, Michigan 49548
You can use mapquest, google maps, or yahoo maps to get directions. Many, many adopters come from out of state and so far no one has had trouble finding my house. We are a very short drive off the highway. When inputting my address to pull up directions, make sure you include the "SW" in the street name, as there IS another Maplelawn with a 314 address on it.
On Maplelawn, we are on the left side, towards the cul-de-sac on the end of the street. There are two light green houses in a row, our's is the first. 314 can be seen above the front door. We don't have any trees in the front yard - most of the other houses do. Please come around to the back door to spare my livingroom carpet. If I don't open the door for you, please knock loudly. :)
My cell phone is 616-322-1416. Please call only in the event that you will be more than a half hour early or late, or if you are lost, or had to cancel. We don't have a land line so this is the only way to contact me, but I try to keep calls short to keep the bill cheap. Any general questions you have before you come get your rats can be answered by email.
Please make sure to bring a carrier of some sort to transport your rats home in! If you are traveling a short distance, a small, secure box works as well. You can find small plastic carriers (Kritter Keepers is one brand) at many pet stores. You can also use a regular cage if you have room, but keep in mind a water bottle will drip everywhere while you drive and soak the bedding. Grapes work well as a water source if you will be driving a long distance with your new rats.
All babies are $15 each, $30 for a pair, reguardless of color or type. Payment can be made by check, or EXACT cash only. I do not usually have change onhand, so if you are paying with cash make sure you have an exact amount on you.
We do have four cats and a dog (chihuahua) here! My cats are very friendly and usually make a big fuss of trying to get attention whenever people come to pick up their rats. If you are allergic to cats or dogs or just plain uncomfortable with them, let me know in advance! I will put them in another room while you are here. Otherwise it is highly likely that you will get a kitty greeting! Our chihuahua will bark a lot and gets very excited whenever people come over, but he will NOT bite. If you have young children and bring them, I ask that you make sure they know how to behave around animals.. my pets are all very friendly, but I don't want their ears or tails pulled, etc.
My rattery is a closed rattery, like most are nowadays. This means adopters are not allowed in the areas of the house in which my rats are kept. Please do not ask to see them. This is to protect my rats from contagious viruses that CAN be spread unknowingly by visitors! It not a LIKELY thing, but it can happen. I know everyone wants to see all the rats and all the babies, but it just is not safe to expose my entire rattery for that reason. I am not a petshop - I am a serious hobby breeder who is very dedicated to the health and well-being of my pets. Unfortunately there are no vaccines for pet rats at this time, so they are always at risk of contracting something. If you had ever medicated dozens of rats at one time you would understand - it is heartbreaking, expensive, and very time-consuming. I have done it once in the past. All of my rats (and other small pets) reside in the downstairs portion of our house - the rat room, family room, laundry room, and my bedroom. Most are obviously in the rat room but I do sometimes have babies in the family room or my bedroom. Before you arrive I will have your rats waiting in a carrier upstairs. This isn't a foolproof system but it's the best I can reasonably do for my animals. I appreciate everyone understanding!
Thank you for reading all of this information before you come to pick up your Silver Fuzz Rats. :)
